10 Ways How Traveling Can Transform Your Life
24. 10. 2016
Traveling is liberating and transformational. It changes you to the very core and awakens your soul. Out in the open, away from the comfort of home you become more mindful and embrace life in totality. As I love to travel you may think I am biased, but I have met people and read some tales how travel has been a life altering decision for them. It introduces you to a better self and elevates the quality of your every-day life. So, here are ten ways how traveling will enrich you and why you should start packing your bags right away:
You begin to enjoy solitude and company alike- When you are out on the road with no work or responsibilities weighing you down, you are more conscious of your being and those around you. You learn to appreciate the quiet moments by yourself and also chatting up complete strangers you meet on the way. Without the fear of being judged and the curiosity of unknown makes a talker of even the most introvert kinds. You may just surprise your own self!
Makes you appreciate the little things in life- Living in a city apartment, going to work and taking care of responsibilities sums up life for most of us. You are so deep in work and chores that you fail to enjoy the small pleasures life has to offer. While traveling you can relax and bask in the beauty of the nature, enjoy a shower of rain, taste delicious local cuisine and enjoy real cultural performances. It brings you closer to nature and marvel at its bounty.
You learn live in the moment- Most of our life is lived either remembering the past or worrying about the future, with little time to enjoy the present. While traveling, you are more aware of the present situation and that makes all the difference. It takes your mind of things you anyway you cannot control and allows you to savor in the moment which will make for great experience and good memories in the years to come.
Makes you stronger than ever- Being away from home and outside your comfort zone can be quite beneficial for you. Managing your stay, food, resources and safety in a foreign land successfully fills you with confidence and courage. Having faced awkward and difficult situations on your journey, you feel stronger and more sure of yourself. Facing limitations or any roadblocks and moving forwards is a valuable lesson learnt on road which helps in all phases of life.
Fills you with gratitude- When you are in the comfort of home you fail to acknowledge the privileges you have and take everything for granted. Also we crib about things we do not have and how miserable our life is. But when you are in unknown surroundings managing all by yourself, you begin to realize the importance of every small thing you have and gestures done for you by your loved ones. Traveling makes you count your blessings and grateful for everything big or small that you have in your life.
Broadens your perspective and knowledge- The world is a vast one with diverse cultures and so much to learn from them. Staying in one place can lead to stagnancy of mind and personal growth. When you travel to far off lands, you learn more about that place and see things you never saw existed. Meeting people from different walks of life and listening to their stories expands your perspective. You become more aware about the world you live in and are receptive to new ideas and changes.
Brings out the adventurer in you- No matter how cautious or uptight you are, traveling puts your body and mind at rest. Knowing it’s not every day that you get an opportunity to skydive, snorkel or river raft, you accept these experiences as challenges. And once you complete them successfully, the thrill of it makes you want to undertake more testing and exciting tasks. Travel makes you conquer your fears and brings out the adventurer in you.
Gives you great stories to tell- Traveling gives a lot of experiences and good memories. Sometimes on the road you are faced with awkward situations or difficult times, which make for good anecdotes later on in life. Everything you possess will eventually desert you, but the experiences you gather will always be with you. You will have a whole range of cool and inspiring stories to tell your children and grandchildren.
Makes you more desirable – It’s no secret that a well-informed and intelligent person is way more attractive and traveling just ups your desirability factor. Having interesting and informational stories to share along with a more open approach to life, makes people like you immediately. Not saying that this should be your objective, but it does give you an edge over others both personally and professionally.
Makes a you a happier person- It might sound biased, but traveling just makes you a happier soul. You get along with people more easily and appreciate little things. On your journey you learn many life skills and realize what really counts at the end of the day. Also the novelty of each place fuels you to experience more new sights, food and culture. You begin to love your life and the world you live in.
If this has not motivated you enough to back your bags and hop on to a plane, I don’t know what will. Traveling is additive and once you begin, there is no way to stop that urge. So, treat yourself to this new way of life- you owe it to yourself and your well-being!
